Location: Sunnyvale, CA

As a Manager, Information Technology you are responsible for the planning, implementation and operations of NetApp’s information technology strategy. You will analyze the needs of functional departments and establish priorities for feasibility studies and delivery of solutions; provide testing services and technical support for computer systems, subsystems, distributed systems, and systems software; and develop new and/or modify the company’s information processing systems. This is a challenging position working in a fast paced environment, with the opportunity to build and lead cross-functional teams within a matrix organization. You are responsible for contributing to setting program goals, plans and schedules, closely monitoring program execution, driving issue resolution and accepting the responsibility for ensuring successful achievement of program goals.

Essential Functions:

- Participate in and lead regular staff meetings with technical team, and cross-functional teams to understand functional business need, develop functional specifications, technical designs, and or workflow requirements.

- Determine, present, and gain approval from more senior managers, on the scope and priority of current and future projects.

- Make recommendations and present solutions and assist with the development and management of such implementations.

- Develop and manage the department headcount, capital and expense budget.

- Establish key metrics to manage performance of staff.

- Identify needed resources for projects, define and assign major project roles.
- Ensure that projects and development efforts are documented and changes are managed.

- Develop, implement, and monitor policies and controls to ensure data accuracy, security, legal, and regulatory compliance.

- Encourage proper implementation of IT processes and provide oversight of processes.

- Provide appropriate feedback to management on process improvement suggestions.

- Manage a diverse group of technical managers across departments.

- Promote and maintain high standards of customer service.

- Assist with contract negotiations with consultants, technical personnel, and vendors for services and products.

- Ensure program milestones and objectives are met.

- Keep senior management informed of key issues and changes which may impact expected business results.
- Ensure that projects adhere to the company processes and initiate process improvements as needed.
- Take responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.

Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

- This position is responsible for managing many tasks within a large group or department.
- The focus of this role is on business and its implication.
- The potential impact of decisions made by this individual will be mostly operational with some financial.
- This individual will apply attained experience and knowledge to address issues that are diverse in scope, and resolve problems through short- and mid-term planning.

- This individual must work effectively with Staff to Vice President level employees and employees within and outside of their department and function.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Ensure that UNIX requirements are addressed from an operational readiness and support perspective across NetApp
• Provide overall coordination and management of all operational availability and reporting activities within NetApp for UNIX department
• Provide process and work instruction documentation to enable Level 1 and 2 support from 24/7 (NOC) staff
• Develop and foster an environment of ownership with a focus on process, automation, and proactive thinking
• Target opportunities for the improvements of baseline service such as LDAP, DNS, and NIS
• Manage Incident, Service and Change tickets within specified service levels
• Gain consensus of solutions with peers and client constituencies
• Manage projects in support of strategic direction as well as those which increase operational prowess
• Lead UNIX team to meet required operational service levels as negotiated with customers
• Ensure technology solutions and processes will allow NetApp to achieve the reliability, availability and scalability required to meet business objectives
• Develop proposals to optimize existing and introduce emerging technologies in support of increasing operational readiness and failover capabilities of UNIX systems
• Develop and enhance the skills and experience of operational staff
• Champion the marketing of NetApp technologies and demonstrate to internal and external customers the value proposition NetApp software and systems delivers to IT
• Coordinate training for employees, contractors, partners, and other third parties as appropriate
• Conduct regular IT UNIX audits and other activities in support of 100% SOX compliance
• Manage the development of operational metrics from existing reporting tools to market the department’s operational prowess
• Recommend strategy of selective UNIX services to preferred providers and manage resulting contracts/relationships as required
• Provide direction and guidance to management to exploit opportunities to leverage NetApp’s India operations to increase support efficiencies

EDUCATION:
A BS in Computer Science or Business, MS preferred.
Certification in the administration of UNIX systems
ITIL Foundations

Experience:
• 4+ years experience managing UNIX administrators in a medium to large IT environment
• 3+ years experience developing and implementing automation technologies to streamline operational support
• 2-3 years Management in a Global Operations role
• 2-3 Years experience with Fujitsu PrimePower systems running SunOS, IBM Pseries running AIX
• In depth technical knowledge of SunOS, AIX, Oracle is a plus
• Experience with virtualization technologies
• General understanding of storage technologies
• Experience with or certification in ITIL; specifically Incident and Change Management
• Developing and implementing operational policies, standards and metrics for multi-billion dollar company
• Development, adoption and enforcement of operational policies/processes in multi-billion dollar company
• Managing the testing, troubleshooting, installation or implementation of upgrades and configurations
• Developing and maintaining operational budgets
• Establishing and maintaining project operating procedures and maintaining quality documentation
• Monitoring and overseeing the execution of project activities and overall responsibilities for on-time delivery and results
• Interfacing with internal customers to gather project requirements and performing due diligence as required
• Accountability for building and developing a high performance and productivity team
• Providing technical guidance for trouble shooting and issue resolution when needed
• Recommending and securing consensus with various IT groups for solutions that are cost effective
• Maintaining healthy departmental morale conducive with the NetApp Culture

Must provide evidence of increased managerial responsibility and technical growth.
Strong initiative and management skills; ability to work in both a self-directed and team environment.
Must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently, work under deadlines, maintain budget, and be able to produce in a mission critical environment.
The ability drive innovation and change, thru consensus and concurrently mature relationships.
Experience with vendor/carrier relationship management and negotiation.
Ability to develop presentations and deliver them orally to all levels of management
